When Marana Unified School District (MUSD) faced budget constraints and a need for a more efficient space for their bus fleet operations, they turned to us to make their vision a reality. After receiving pricing for a different facility that was out of reach, MUSD knew we were the right partner to design and construct a 20,500 SF bus and operations building that would meet their needs without compromising on quality or budget
With streamlined procurement through the Mohave Educational Services Cooperative contract, we worked closely with MUSD leadership and their Garage Manager to create a custom facility designed to support their large fleet and daily operations. The bus maintenance area features nine bays with a 20-foot+ high ceiling, capable of accommodating bus lifts. Additionally, the space includes a welding room, small equipment repair room, and restrooms—providing everything needed to keep the fleet running smoothly.
Attached to the maintenance area, the Operations Center provides much-needed office space for dispatch, routing, management, and other key functions, complete with break rooms, storage, a conference/training area, and more. Every aspect of the building was carefully designed to foster efficiency and ensure that all MUSD staff could work seamlessly together in a modern, functional space.
One of the key challenges we helped the district overcome was the need for the district to continue using their existing facilities during construction, so we phased the project to ensure minimal disruption. ESB also expeditiously handled other project complexities, such as navigating floodplain requirements, asbestos abatement during the demolition phase, and nuanced After MUSD moved into the new building, we demolished the old structure and transformed the area into a new bus parking lot, completing the project on time and within budget.
